It wasn’t intended as prophecy

This is the technique of authoritarianism: slowly dismantle the judicial/justice system so it is not there to defend your rights, the constitution, or democracy when you need them.
I used to ponder what made (30 years ago) the US democracy more stable than other democracies of Latin America, and the justice system came on top. When there is no non-partisan justice system, the democracy is corrupt by definition, and hence weak.
Authoritarians always want “validation”, “acceptance”, and “respect”. For that reason they are stealth about dismantling the justice system. The evangelical/moral right fringe of the GOP has been at this project for 50 years, not exactly stealth, but everyone else was in denial. We simply arrived at where we have been going and as more constitutionally protected rights will be slowly dismantled under a “veneer” of impartial justice, all bets are off. I don’t see the USA public panic-ed enough to get organized. Neither are the DEMs octogenarians and above. They cannot comprehend how serious the situation is; they supported awful interventions in other countries and never learn the lessons. What can I say, usually people get tired of authoritarians in 15-20 years. Let’s hope the destruction of democracy is not too bloody.
