Better maps

January 5, 2018

Google’s maps are better than Apple’s, and they are getting better faster. I switched to Google from static maps, when Google provided a decent way to cache maps offline.

It once was the case that human cartographers made all sorts of subtle decisions about how best to represent a variety of real-world features on their maps. Google is automating that. See how the house in the photo gets turned into a shaded aspect for map purposes. And, of course, Google has far more features captured than most map makers past.
