Of a certain age

January 3, 2017

Richard Nixon is dead history to most Americans now alive. Likely it is mostly those of us of a certain age who will notice or care that there is yet more evidence that he tried to sabotage the 1968 peace talks, as part of his first campaign for the presidency. With Wallace splitting the popular vote, Nixon barely edged out Humphrey that year. Texas went for Humphrey.

Four years later, Nixon won re-election by the largest landslide in modern US history.

Is there evidence that Reagan, as a private citizen, also meddled in the release of hostages in Iran at the end of Carter’s presidency? Would that be treason too?

I don’t know of any. It was obvious that the Ayatollahs were holding them to spite Carter, for giving Reza Pahlavi safe space in the US.

Of course, Oliver North illegally traded arms to Iran. That was after the election. The Tea Party makes him a hero because of that.
