Women leaving religion
While women remain more religious than men, Pew data shows the gap has narrowed in the US in recent years, due to more women dropping their religious practice. Pew associates that with women becoming more educated and more involved in the workplace. Some want to argue it is more due to the greater involvement of religion in cultural debates over contraception, abortion, and other gender issues. “It isn’t because they’re too busy or too well educated. Maybe they stopped going when conservative politics took over the pulpit.”
Ah, but a woman who doesn’t want a preacher to dictate her sexual practices may decide she doesn’t want him prescribing her beliefs at all. And might decide that even if he stays out of politics.
