In Mississippi and some other southern state, April is Confederate Heritage Month. In due respect of that, read about carpetbaggers and scalawags. The University of Mississippi tried to put a statue commemorating Confederates into context, only to have its own historians object. Princeton, a yankee institution, is dealing with Woodrow Wilson’s sympathy to the Lost Cause.
At my own alma mater, Woodrow Wilson’s statue was paired with Jefferson Davis’s on the south mall that I walked thousands of times. Both statues were removed this summer.
The Texas GOP will debate secession at their state convention. And I’m certain if asked, most would say they belong to the party and principles of Lincoln!
