The latest study that is being used to tout red wine for type 2 diabetics is interesting. It did not involve many participants, but had the advantage of being a tightly controlled two year study. Improved glycemic function was seen for both white and red wine, but only in those with a gene for slow alcohol metabolism. Only those in the red wine group saw beneficial cholesterol changes. Both red and white wine drinkers slept better. (Cite.)
