Online, automatic bird identification

June 9, 2015

Cornell and Visipedia are applying image recognition to bird identification. Birders can upload photos to a website, draw rectangles to make sure the software knows where the bill, eye, and tail are, and the website then generates a short list of likely species. I don’t know how well this works. Coming soon to your Android phone or iPhone.
