Women and combat

A young friend of mine is engaged in a bout of intense physical training, trying to increase his options as a new recruit. He now is doing a couple hundred push-ups daily, and dozens of pull-ups. An average young man working hard.

The Army announced last week that all eight women in Ranger School had failed. The Marines had a similar experience with its Infantry Officer Course. There are few roles in today’s military where raw strength still matters, and fewer still outside the military. Where it does, that will create a sex divide, especially regarding upper body strength, as Razib Khan belabors.
