God hates set theory

August 24, 2014

There is a long history of fundamentalists making odd philosophical arguments against all sorts of science and mathematics. When relativity was new, there were those who opposed it either because a) of its implication for morality, despite it having no such implication, as Einstein himself was wont to explain, and b) because Euclidean space is how things are supposed to be, damn it. But I never realized that the some fundamentalists, including those behind the A Beka curriculum, are opposed to set theory. That post is two years old. And despite being fairly well versed in the lunacies of Christian fundamentalism, that particular one still surprises me.
