More on Iraq

July 3, 2014

Though I suspect the picture it paints of Iraq before war is inevitably narrow, this interview tellingly relates how the 2003 invasion exacerbated sectarian strife and failed to restore a functioning government. Scott Lemeiux takes on Peter Beinart, for expecting Obama to have somehow fixed that. Steve Clemons explores the money trail from Saudi Arabia’s Prince Bandar to ISIS, and how the US supported that, with McCain one of the chief cheerleaders. Thomas E. Ricks explains why more intervention now would be a bad choice. Let’s hope Obama’s increase in military advisers is not the incipient wedge of yet another surge.
