A long drink of water

A study of Japanese men born near the turn of the 20th century found that the shorter men lived longer, due to bearing a form of the FOXO3 gene that helps better regulate insulin and suppress tumors. (Cite.) Like all such studies, this one requires cautious interpretation, partly because the study group was so homogenous.

Japanese today are taller than they were a couple of generations past. Though their genes are much the same. Some of that is nutrition. But not all. There are a variety of things that have caused height to increase.
