Cleaner air, more storms?

KirkenesSimulations suggest that the Clean Air Act, which has been effective at removing aersols from the atmosphere, may have led to an increase in Atlantic storms.

That doesn’t much affect the arctic, where Kirkenes, Norway (photo left), is preparing for a boom in shipping bulk materials over the top of the world, as sea ice continues its long decline:

The volume of goods transported along the Northern Sea Route is likely to grow strongly in the coming years, from 1.26 million tonnes last year to 50 million tonnes in 2020, according to the Norwegian Shipowners’ Association.
