Freedom, a little longer

StandwithWendyDavisWendy Davis and “an unruly mob” have preserved reproductive liberty for Texas women. At least for a bit longer. Rick Perry is eager to run for president on the Taliban ticket, and is likely to call another special session.

The falsely named “Defense of Marriage Act” was clearly unconstitutional, so it shouldn’t be a surprise that it was struck down. But the slim margin shows it was no sure thing.

    Wendy Davis gives me hope we may see more responsible, rational, courageous legislators in the future of Texas. Not just because I agreed with her, but because she insisted on needing evidence that this law would have met its stated goal of “improving women’s health.”

    Wouldn’t it be great if that criteria was more common to evaluate laws, often passed out of fear, ignorance, and without much thought of consequences? The PATRIOT act comes to mind….
