The survivalist edition

Some of the soi-disant survivalists I have met have stocked up on everything from MREs to ammunition, but couldn’t walk a mile to save their lives. This 83 year-old Japanese woman, a rice farmer, demonstrates real survival skills: fitness, determination, and a ready bicycle. Now me? I have my own way of getting ready.

The orderly way that the Japanese handle disasters may largely derive from their social institutions. Krugman points out the evidence that the US is in a liquidity trap.
